BLOOD INCANTATION, MIDWIFE In Los Angeles, CA With Photos! By Thomas Delgado, @forthehordeprod Wednesday, November 20, 2024 @ 8:59 AM
The Stargate was opened this past Tuesday evening in LA at the Regent Theater, and all in attendance took a journey. BLOOD INCANTATION hosted an evening of cosmic Death Metal that transported the audience to a different dimension of existence. From the moment doors opened and people leaked into the venue, you could tell it would be a special evening.
Getting there early enough, I made my way right to the merch table, finding a massive line of like minded merch loving show attendees. Honestly, it's amazing to see fans supporting not only live music, but the traveling artists who bust their ass to bring it to you by grabbing a shirt, CD, or LP. It certainly helps when the merch rules, and are 4 sided Death Metal long sleeves emblazoned with pyramids and aliens on them. I grabbed 2 long sleeves and was ready for the action.
Starting the evening was one woman folk/ambient/electronic/indie project MIDWIFE. A purposeful opener, MIDWIFE drew you in to the evening with their haunting, soft, and intimate sound. I was surprised how Midwife was able to captivate a packed room of proggy Death Metal geeks. Maybe a reflection of the respectful and kind nature of BLOOD INCANTATION's audience.
It was time now for the headliner and you could really feel the crowd start to swell with excitement. BLOOD INCANTATION had billed this tour the "Absolute Elsetour", promising to play their newest album Absolute Elsewhere in its entirety. Divided into two parts "The Stargate" and "The Message" which are then broken into 3 Tablets (tracks) each. The band did just that this evening, tearing through each Tablet of the new album, flanked by hieroglyph carved megaliths, against the backdrop of psychedelic lights and projected images. These boys know how to put on a show.
The new album is as brutal as it is beautiful, pounding and pulverizing you, just before taking you on dreamy, proggy, soundscapes. "All life is temporary, what lasts is consciousness". A haunting and thought provoking message delivered through riffs that gave you the stank face the entire set.
