At first listen it might be surprising when you find out that Destroy Destroy Destroy is a band out of Nashville, not Norway. In the case of these Southerners, thrash and melodic death metal with chunks of orchestral majesty are constituents for a great sound, not a musical identity crisis. The second full-length release, Battle Sluts is black metal epic, abundant in strings, keys, horns, and blast beats, but lacks the thrash and grittiness of 2006’s Devour the Power. These hillbillies know their Viking lore, which is often reflected in the songs’ lyrics, but Battle Sluts is an embodiment of instrumental excellence and power not just Old Norse, church burning, slay the dragon tales. The “Battle Slut Drinking Song” the final track is chanted loudly by the drunken destroyers a capella-- a rhyming piece of filth that would make any wench blush and then run for her life.
