Starting off our weekend strong in the heart of the city we have the "Heaven Let Them Die" North American Tour. This tour features the headliner COUNTERPARTS, a Canadian hardcore band, along with three other talented supporting bands. Opening up the night we have FOREIGN HANDS, followed by MALEVOLENCE and PAIN OF TRUTH. Friday night was the fourth city on this tour, and it landed them right here in Boston.

I call this specific area the heart of the city because it's where I always find myself. In Kenmore Square, right outside of the Lansdowne train station lies Fenway Park. Tonight the place to be is Boston's House of Blues. Personally this venue is one, if not my favorite place to catch a show. With the gorgeous decor inside the lobby area as well as the floor space, there's always something new to look at. Fans crowded into the venue once doors opened at 6pm. The first thing you hit as you walk towards the floor is PAIN OF TRUTH's merch booth, which of course I grabbed the coolest hoodie! I think anyone would agree the best part of shows is seeing all the similar people just coming together to listen to good music.

FOREIGN HANDS is a hardcore/metalcore band made in Delaware. The five-person band features Tyler Norris' vocals, along with Jack Beatson and Gill Gonzalez on guitar, Chuck Minix on bass and Tyler Washington on drums. Their set opened up the night and really set the tone for the bands to follow. I don't think there was a moment when the pit wasn't open. I always enjoy when the energy is maintained throughout the show, no matter if the band is opening or headliner.

Setlist:

  • "Resetting the Senses"
  • "Chlorine Tears"
  • "Tearing Down Your Reality"
  • "Hesitation Marks"
  • "Horror Domain"
  • "Laceration Wings"
  • "Conditioned For a Head-On Collision"
  • "God Under Fingernails"
  • "Separation Souvenir"

MALEVOLENCE is an English metalcore band with over 300,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. The band consists of vocalist Alex Taylor, guitar from Konon Hall and Josh Baines, along with bass from Wilkie Robinson, with Charlie Thorpe on drums. This was my first time seeing and hearing about them, but I immediately understood why they fit into the bill.

Setlist:

  • "Karma"
  • "Life Sentence"
  • "Trenches"
  • "Self Supremacy"
  • "Keep Your Distance"
  • "On Broken Glass"
If this is also your first time hearing about this band, and you're curious about them, you can keep up with their Instagram here; @malevolence.nz.

PAIN OF TRUTH was one of the first hardcore bands I was introduced to. Shortly after discovering them, I was able to see them play at the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival. I'm always happy to see familiar bands on lineups, and was excited to have another opportunity to watch their set. Based out of Long Island, New York, the band consists of guitarists Nik Hansen and Ridge Rhine, bassist Zach Stachura, and drummer Nick Barker, with vocals from Michael Smith.

I was happy to see this band maintain the energy I remembered them for. For the duration of the whole show there was practically one massive pit. PAIN OF TRUTH got everyone to two-step which was great to watch from the top balcony. This show probably had the most targeted pit attacks I've seen. I caught myself smiling countless times just because of the energy PAIN OF TRUTH brings to the stage.

Setlist:

  • "Blood on Your Hands"
  • "Lifeless on the Ground"
  • "In Your Heart"
  • "Under My Skin"
  • "This Falls On You"
  • "Two Choices"
  • "Not Through Blood"
  • "Intro"
  • "Pain of Truth"
  • "You And Me"
  • "Actin' Up"
  • "The Test"
If you are looking to follow along with PAIN OF TRUTH, you can view their Instagram @painoftruthnortheasthardcore. Upon completion of this tour, PAIN OF TRUTH will be playing US festivals and multiple dates across Europe. Check out those shows or look out for future shows on their website.

I would describe COUNTERPARTS as a band that's easy to love for both fans of metalcore and hardcore music. Although the band formed over a decade ago, I've seen this bands name more in the past year, than ever before. I was amazed by their vocalist, Brendon Murphy. I have always been fascinated with metal vocals, and I can say that Brendon is talented. The rest of the band consists of Jesse Doreen and Tyler Williams on guitar, along with drummer, Kyle Brownlee. This headlining tour named after their newest EP Heaven Let Them Die kicked off in Toronto on February 18th, and will hit twenty-four cities throughout its run. The six-song EP was released back in November and was agreed to be brutal, while the band is "at their heaviest".

COUNTERPARTS played a loaded set, coming in hot with over fifteen songs as well as the encore. They played their most known songs along with their EP Heaven Let Them Die in full. With a long intro, the crowd was pumped when they walked on stage at roughly 9:45pm. I watched as people fell and were picked back up, and what was probably the most amount of flips I've ever seen in a pit.

Setlist:

  • "A Martyr Left Alive"
  • "With Loving Arms Disfigured"
  • "Bound to the Burn"
  • "What Mirrors Might Reflect"
  • "Wings of Nightmares"
  • "Choke"
  • "Paradise and Plague"
  • "Sworn to Silence"
  • "Your Own Knife"
  • "Cherished"
  • "Unwavering Vow"
  • "To Hear of war"
  • "No Lamb Was Lost"
  • "No Servant of Mine"
  • "Praise No Artery Intact"
  • "Monument"
  • "Heaven Let Them Die"
Encore:
  • "Love Me"
  • "Whispers of Your Death"
