Houston's House of Blues was alive with emotion on March 4th as MOVEMENTS delivered a show that was as visually stunning as it was sonically immersive. With CITIZEN setting the tone as the opening act, the night felt like stepping into an entirely new dimension-one where every chord, lyric, and lighting cue pulled the audience deeper into the experience.
Working in the nightlife industry, I unfortunately wasn't able to catch the earlier openers, SCOWL and DOWNWARD due to a last minute job obligation. The downside of balancing both worlds-photography and bartending-sometimes means missing out on exciting key moments. However, I made it in time for both the CITIZEN and MOVEMENTS sets and the performances they delivered more than made up for what was missed.
As CITIZEN took the stage, the crowd was instantly entranced. From the moment they launched into "The Night I Drove Alone", the atmosphere shifted, drawing everyone into their world. Guitarist Nick Hamm knew exactly how to work his angles-effortlessly blending technical mastery with an undeniable stage presence. Meanwhile, vocalist Mat Kerekes commanded the room, often holding his microphone over the crowd, making even those in the back feel like they had a front-row seat. The synergy between band and audience was undeniable, setting the perfect foundation for MOVEMENTS.

As MOVEMENTS took the stage I noticed as soon as their lighting display erupted, we were all in for something special. If there's one thing I love to play with as a photographer it's color, and MOVEMENTS delivered in full force. Vivid hues painted every moment, with frontman Patrick Miranda often centering himself perfectly in front of the band's logo-an unintentional but striking visual signature.
The first three songs ("Afraid to Die", "Lead Pipe", and "Killing Time") flew by in a blink, every second dripping color through my lens. House of Blues security-whom I had the pleasure of befriending throughout the night-looked on with quiet amusement as many members of the crowd surfed forward, fully immersed in the band's emotional and sonic weight.
The crowd was a mix of longtime fans and newcomers, all united under this shared experience. The setlist weaved seamlessly through their discography, touching on both introspective moments and cathartic outbursts.
By the time "Daylily" closed out the set, it was clear-MOVEMENTS isn't just a band; they're an experience. From their commanding presence to their mesmerizing visuals, they left a memory that won't soon fade. Houston showed up for them, and in return, they gave us a show that felt less like a concert and more like a moment in time of vibrant light and emotion.
