ROTTING CHRIST
The Apocryphal Spells Vols. I & II
Season of Mist
Review By Tony Sanchez
The Greek OGs have just released a collection of previously unreleased tracks and rarities for streaming only available in some previously released limited editions.
The opening track, "Astral Embodiment", on The Apocryphal Spells Vol.I, with its dark industrial vibe sounds almost like some early RAMMSTEIN. I have to admit that I’ve always had a penchant for their more goth/dark rock influenced works so it’s no surprise that the track "Moonlight", that would please fans of early IN FLAMES with its catchy hard goth riffs under melodic growly screams, is a winner on this one.
On The Apocryphal Spells Vol. II we’re pretty much in blast-beat galore territory albeit for a haunting remix of "Noctis Era" that indulges in a more melodically epic ride. The favourite on the second volume is clearly "Spiritus Sancti" with its straight forward but effectively hypnotic ROTTING CHRIST signature chorus.
Really hoping these two favourite songs make their way into the setlist for the upcoming shows as their live performances always make for a great time.
