FRANK HANNON
From One Place...To Another - Volume 2

RedHawk Records

The cover king Frank Hannon has flown back in with a sequel to the prequel of his first collection of his classic rock covers featuring some high-flying renditions of classics from DEEP PURPLE, JIMI HENDRIX, AEROSMITH, the STONES, SABBATH and, yes, SEAL and CHAKA KHAN!

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines as TESLA’s six-stringed soldier Frank Hannon is taking to the skies once more with the second collection of his bluesy acoustic rock numbers titled From One Place...To Another - Volume 2. Like on its predecessor, Hannon and a similar group of well-established musicians wing it on some random covers and immediately lifts those numbers to the stratosphere. And some of those musicians just happen to also be the offspring of many other well-established musicians.

Case in point would be the inclusion of Graham Whitford, frequently known as the son of AEROSMITH bassist Brad Whitford, who works his magic on an extended and sultry-sounding cover of “Lord Of The Thighs”. Duane Betts (son of ALLMAN BROTHERSDickey Betts) also lends his guitar skills on a rousing cover of the STONES“You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

Meanwhile, the diehard rock/metal fans will be all over the covers of “Hush” and “Sweet Leaf”, the last song with Hannon’s vocals so strikingly close to Ozzy’s that you can hear the Brummie accent a mile away. The funkified swinging cover of HEART’s “Sing Child Sing” features the roaring guitar work of Roger Fisher while the rambunctious cover of Hendrix’ “Spanish Castle Magic” is especially notable for the inclusion of the outstanding fretwork of Randy Hansen, known for his own past work on several Hendrix compilation tributes. And for the more easy-listening types, Hannon delivers on some surprise covers of CHAKA KHAN’s “Tell Me Something Good” with its rolling reggae vibe and a moving version of SEAL’s “Kiss From A Rose”, which, much like the original, is performed with the focus of the vocals being the main instrument of the song - hence why Hannon recorded it as an acoustic number. Also notable is a cover of Billy Swan’s 1974 country hit “I Can Help” which, despite appearing out of place preceding the closing song “Sweet Leaf”, is an otherwise bouncy upbeat number made possible with the harmonic skills of Jeff Sandoval and Mike Araiza, who’ve played on previous Frank Hannon solo releases including 2012’s Six String Soldiers.

To sum this album up, From One Place Vol. 2 is far from plain while also just plain enjoyable and catchy to listen to, with something for every worldly music traveler.
