Zeke Live and Uncensored By Frank Meyer, Contributing Editor Monday, November 10, 2003 @ 11:18 AM
Like Slayer and Motorhead, these dudes only know one mode of transportation, fast as fuck and furious as all hell. Zeke simply wait for the green light and go, pedal to the metal. Sure, the studio cuts from Death Alley find the band adopting a slightly more power-rock vibe, and unreleased studio cuts like “Ramirez” and “King of Lynnwood” have genuine shades of genuine fist-pumping hard rock, but mostly Zeke rips yer head off and shit down yer neck in quick, two minute bursts until you are numb with glorious pain.
All the classic Zeke material is covered here, from “Flat Tracker” to “”Automatic” to “Mountain Man” to “Ride with Zeke” and the fans sound like they’re loving every minute of it. Their cover of Motorhead’s “Overkill” stays pretty close to the original but their version of Deep Purple “Highway Star” just fucking kills. I wouldn’t say by any means that it’s better than the original but I dare anyone to play this song faster and with more venom that Mr. Blind Marky Feltchtone and his band of merry murderers.
Heavy? Fuck yeah.
Fast? Faster than a shark, baby.
Punk? Punker than you.
Metal? Like a hammer.
