DEVILDRIVER Trust No One By Halo, Heavenly Contributor Tuesday, May 3, 2016 @ 10:37 AM
Holy Shit, I have just experienced the best Death Metal I've ever heard! DEVILDRIVER's 7th studio album, Trust No One, set to be released May 13th, kicks ass and will consume you with each track! Collaborating with producer Mark Lewis (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HOLY GRAIL, COAL CHAMBER), I cannot say enough about this album.
The evolution of DEVILDRIVER from their first album release Devildriver in 2003 to this latest album, Trust No One proves they just get better and never fail to succeed.
With six studio albums preceding Trust No One the pressure is always on to produce work that expectations. The last two albums, like all their releases, were both commercial successes not only here in the U.S. but across the globe. Beast, released in 2011, sold 11,000 copies the first week of its release and charted on Billboard 200 at #42. On U.S. Top Rock Album Billboard it hit 10th, and U.S. Top Hard Rock Album was #2. It debuted on the UK rock & metal album charts at #1.
The last release in 2013, Winter Kills, sold 11,000 copies as well and debuted #32 on Billboard 200 charts. Trust No One is sure to keep their chart topping traditions going.
With influences spanning from JOHNNY CASH to MOTORHEAD, OPETH and SLAYER it's no wonder they have perfected this sound of heavy metal destruction. Dez Fafara, the only original DD member (COAL CHAMBER) collaborating with long time DD guitarist Mike Spreitzer which was quoted saying "This is the record I've been wanting to write for 12 years". Both Dez and Mike are working with newer members Neal Tiemann (guitarist, MIDWEST KINGS & THE ANTHEMIC) and Austin D'Amond on drums (CHIMAIRA). Last, but far from least, Diego "Ashes" Ibarra (bassist, ex-STATIC X) is the latest member added to this ferocious five piece.
This albums first track, "Testimony To Truth", starts this ass kicking metal journey dealing with overall human emotions; the evolution of change, life's doors closing but then opening once again. To describe Trust No One I'd say it's the amalgamation of groove and melodic death metal. There are 10 tracks plus two bonus tracks.
The first single, "Daybreak", was released April 22nd and in less than two weeks since its debut, fans have been enamored. After hearing all ten tracks I know DD fans are gonna loose their minds.
The title track "Trust No One" hooks you with lyrics like "I've been destroyed by trust" along with amazing guitar and raging drums. "Bad Deeds" is the second track, admittedly one of my favorites on the album. Drummer Austin D'Amond is a total badass on this one and unleashes. "Retribution", the 9th track, has an intro that pretty much throat punches you. The technical guitar will blow your mind. The apex of this album is track 10, "For What It's Worth", with big hooks, relentless vocals and complete metal mayhem! It will leave you headbanging and throwing the horns up!
