DIMINO Old Habits Die Hard By Larry Petro, News Monkey Monday, January 25, 2016 @ 2:44 PM
First, let me start off by saying, I’m a long time ANGEL fan and was excited to hear new material from the voice of ANGEL. Frank DiMino’s Old Habits Die Hard was released on Frontier Music Sri in July 2015 with Paul Crook (MEATLOAF, ANTHRAX) producing. Frank assembled an arsenal of guest musicians that includes: Oz Fox (STRYPER), Jeff Duncan (ARMORED SAINT), Eddie Ojeda (TWISTED SISTER), Rick Medlocke (BLACKFOOT, LYNYRD SKYNYRD), Danny Miranda, John Avery, John Miceli, Paul Crook (ANTHRAX, MEATLOAF), Barry Brandt (ANGEL) and Punky Meadows (ANGEL).
What better way to kick off this CD than to team up with former band mate Punky Meadows on “Never Again”, a toe-tapping, hard rocking tune that will get the blood pumping. Next up, “Rockin’ In The City”, a kick-ass, head-banging tune that (in my opinion) has a strong DEEP PURPLE/UFO influence with heavy keyboards and a solid guitar solo. Although all songs are new, “I Can’t Stop Loving You”, “The Rain's About To Fall”, “Even Now” and “Tears Will Fall” definitely could have been on any of the ANGEL albums. Continuing on, “Mad As Hell” and “Sweet Sensation” have a nice 80’s metal vibe. “Tonight’s The Night” gives me a 50’s rock-a-billy sped-up to 100mph. “The Quest” sounds like it could have been the follow-up from “The Tower” (ANGEL). Finishing up is “Stones By The River”, a bluesy, smooth tune that highlights the full range of Frank Dimino’s talent.
