DEATH ANGEL The Bay Calls For Blood By Alex Yarborough, Orlando Contributor Saturday, July 11, 2015 @ 6:20 PM
The Bay Calls For Blood (named after their 2013 masterpiece The Dream Calls For Blood) is their second live album since reuniting (and third overall). 2009’s Sonic German Beatdown was an hour-long live album to reacquaint listeners with the band in the midst of their return. While not as long as Sonic German Beatdown, this album contains a perfect showcase from the ten songs featured, and clocks in at around 48 minutes.
Whereas Sonic German Beatdown focused more on the classic (pre-reunion) material, The Bay Calls For Blood features almost entirely post-reunion material; seven songs come from the last studio album The Dream Calls For Blood, and one track each from Killing Season and Relentless Retribution. The lone classic track is “Bored”, from 1988’s Frolic Through The Park.
Recorded on their home turf in San Francisco, this album finds DEATH ANGEL at their deadliest and most vicious. The band truly fires on all cylinders on these songs. Singer Mark Osegueda in particular sounds great, his voice shreds through the night like a sandblaster. This album will fit nicely into fans’ collections as a testament to this era of the band. Hopefully many more albums and tours will follow!
