Anticipation grew as the line to get in swelled past the building, around the corner and down the block. The LC Pavilion, located in the arena district of Columbus, Ohio, not far from THE Ohio State University, played host to the Wednesday night rock show. The LC Pavilion is a mid-sized venue with a rotating stage that can be either an outside, “shed” type arrangement, or like tonight, an indoor show that accommodates approximately 1200.

Up first was the rising band from Omaha, Nebraska, SCREAMING FOR SILENCE. If you’ve been paying attention, you know already that I have been pushing these guys on the pages of KNAC.COM for some time now. If you like a nice blend of melody and metal, singing and screaming, topped by intensity and high-energy live shows; this is your band. Supporting their debut, full-length, independent release, SCREAMING FOR SILENCE unleashed on the audience right out of the gate. After frequenting the Akron, Ohio area the past few years, this was their first appearance in the capital city. The crowd quickly warmed up to them as head-bobbing and horn-raising ensued. The group breezed through their brief set like a well-oiled machine. Big things are in store for SCREAMING FOR SILENCE this summer as they make their way around the festival circuit. Look for them at a venue near you and tell them I sent you.

On tap next was the extremely entertaining set from OTHERWISE. Hailing from Las Vegas, the quintet ripped into “Love And War”. Vocalist Adrian Patrick hammed it up for the photographers in the pit; often pointing at us and posing. Drummer Corky Gainsford acted like a caged animal; standing up on his throne, he was animated much in the vain of POP EVIL’s Chachi Riot. In fact, their music reminds me a lot of POP EVIL - their set was a balance of hard rockers and infectious ballads. The group demonstrated fantastic stage presence and chemistry as their tunes flowed on. I will definitely have them on my radar for their next trip into Ohio supporting their latest Century Media release, Peace At All Costs.

After a short set change it was time for the South African natives, SEETHER. The trio has had huge radio success over the last dozen or so years and it never really hits you until you see them blaze through their set of hit song after hit song. Accompanying them on stage was touring guitarist Bryan Wickmann, who really filled the voids and added a ton of depth. This moved bassist Dale Stewart to center stage and Shaun Morgan stayed at his usual stage-right position. To me SEETHER is like the prototypical garage band in appearance. Red Christmas lights were strung all over the drum riser and mic stands in no form or fashion. Dale marched around in his signature untied boots and flannel shirt. There was no flash or flare, a “take us as we are” sort of attitude completely backed up with very tight musicianship. So tight, that you could track the entire set with the albums and it would be difficult to tell the difference. Shaun Morgan’s voice is so easily recognizable and perfect for hard rock. He has great tone but never looses that hard edge. I think one of the best characteristics of SEETHER are their ability to not take themselves too seriously. With hits like “Fake It” and “Country Song”, they have demonstrated their knack for sarcasm and humor. The set ended with the smash “Remedy”. The night turned out to be a ripping good time, be sure to check out SEETHER as they tour the US through May 23rd in Maryland.
