HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, 3 PILL MORNING, ALL HAIL THE YETI And ESCAPE THE FATE Live In Cleveland With Photos! By Geoff Ketler, Cleveland Contributor Sunday, July 14, 2013 @ 9:42 AM
HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD brought with them a rather eclectic lineup where no two bands were the same…or even close. Up first on the bill was ALL HAIL THE YETI. The short, but sweet set from the Los Angeles band really surprised me. The mic stands were all done up with animal skins and skulls. The band took the stage while an eerie 911 call concerning a suspicious creature played. Vocalist Connor Garritty surveyed the audience as he foamed at the mouth. As the eyes of the animal skulls glowed, sounds of crickets, frogs, and harmonicas played. It was as if we were all in the bayou.
ALL HAIL THE YETI whipped the crowd into a frenzy as they opened with "Deep Creek" The best comparison I can think of to this band is DOWN. They have that southern gritty vibe to them that defies trendy music. The haunting and impressive backing vocals of bassist Nicholas Diltz were a nice contrast to the shrieks and screams from Connor. Any fan of PANTERA, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, or any other Phil Anselmo project would be more than satisfied with ALL HAIL THE YETI.

I usually go to a show expecting musicians to be at the top of their game-rarely do I feel like a band did not leave it all on the stage. This was one of those times. The show would have probably been much more like what I would have expected from such a talented group of individuals if it weren’t for all of the equipment malfunctions, but nonetheless, these are professional musicians and the audience should always expect the best out of them. That being said, pulling off a perfect show is extremely difficult and there will always be mistakes; some are just less noticeable than others. Anyone can have a bad day and I am sure the kinks will get ironed out.

The stage went dark, the houselights went down and HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD took the stage, lighted masks and all. The group opened with their anthem of sorts, "Undead". The crowd sang the lyrics so loud that, at times, it was hard to hear the band over them. This would be a common occurrence for the rest of the evening. Honestly, I can say that HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD brought with them a great stage show and an atmosphere that was less like a concert and more like a dance party. Musically, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD blends a lot of hip hop with alternative rock in a way that reminds me of THE BEASTIE BOYS. The highlights for me, of course, were the heavier-rock influenced songs like "Tendencies" and "Been to Hell. Once "Been to Hell" concluded it was time for me to leave the photo pit. Almost immediately the band members took off their masks and would remain barefaced for the rest of the show.
