Instead of staying out sick with a case of the Scott Weiland flu, 16 decided to go back to work after a five-year hiatus. The band is out to raise hell again with the same sludge and miry lyrics as before, while stepping up the tempo and guitar-power. As a result of good songwriting and no overdoses during the recording process, they’ve made a most impressive record, Bridges to Burn.

The Southern California-based quartet, now in its 16th year of existence, seems like a band of wiser, perhaps better, musicians than before. Homicidal rage comes out in Cris Jerue’s voice as he belts out, “Monday, Bloody Monday,” a tale about giving in to the impulsive urge of the nasty and the ensuing consequences. With sweet songs about shame, guilt, dope sickness, and pain, 16 have kept to their usual subject matter on Bridges to Burn—a sonic opiate laced with non-narcotic brutality, one which won’t cause drowsiness.
