For those unfamiliar, THE DEAD DAISIES are a rotating music collective with members that have come and gone since its founding in 2013. Many rock luminaries have passed through its ranks over the last 9 years, including John Corabi (MOTLEY CRUE), Marco Mendoza (WHITESNAKE,ICONIC), Richard Fortus (GUNS N’ ROSES), Dizzy Reed (GUNS N’ ROSES), Frank Ferrer (GUNS N’ ROSES), and Tommy Clufetos (OZZY, BLACK SABBATH).

The current line-up is led by THE DEAD DAISIES guitarist/founder David Lowy, vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE), guitarist Doug Aldrich (WHITESNAKE, DIO), and drummer Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER). Radiance is the band’s 6th studio effort, their second album with Hughes on vocals, and Tichy’s return to the fold since 2016’s Make Some Noise.

The opening track essentially makes or breaks an album. The power chords and distortion of “Face Your Fear” make it known you are in for a groovy Rock and Roll ride. Glenn Hughes is at his soulful best on this inspirational track. “Hypnotize Yourself” keeps things smooth until the in-your-face chorus. Guitarists David Lowy & Doug Aldrich play well off of each other during the break.

THE DEAD DAISIES are firing on all cylinders with “Shine On”, a track clearly influenced by Hughes’ solo efforts. The band pumps the brakes a little bit with the emotional and stirring track “Radiance”. Brian Tichy puts his stamp on “Born to Fly” while Lowy & Aldrich back him up with some powerful riffage.

“Kiss The Sun” is a mid-tempo rocker with lots of percussion, a little bit of old-school talk box guitar, and all of the intricacies that make Glenn Hughes who he is as a vocalist. “Courageous” is powerful in its delivery without being over the top. “Roll On” is a track with little distortion but plenty of emotion.

Radiance shines bright in THE DEAD DAISIES catalog of music. It’s not as bombastic as their 2021 album Holy Ground, but it stands beside it as one of their best albums. It’s tough sometimes to distinguish the sound of THE DEAD DAISIES from that of their charismatic and soulful singer. Glenn Hughes tends to dominate THE DEAD DAISIES, but that’s not exactly a bad thing.
