BURNING STARR mastermind Jack Starr recently signed a deal with Global Rock Records that not only includes future studio albums, but also re-releases of the majority of the BURNING STARR catalog. It was also announced that an Anthology collection is on the way. Souls of The Innocent is Jack Starr’s first release on his new label and it sees the addition of a new vocalist. Alexx Panza (HITTEN) takes over for Todd Michael Hall (RIOT V), who fronted that last few BURNING STARR albums.
The fiery licks of guitarist Jack Starr kick off the opening track “Demons Behind Me”. Vocalist 1Alexx Panza switches between low and high register. “I Am The Sinner” is led by a marching beat and matching riff. Starr shines again with his fretwork. The album’s title track “Souls of The Innocent” is guided by a haunting chant. Thunderous drums and lightning quick licks dominate “Winds of War”. There’s a bit of a Celtic feel to “Ships In The Night”. Drummer Rhino takes center stage on “Attilla” with his thumping kicks.
Souls of The Innocent explores dark themes with ferocious guitar work and enduring vocal melodies. Starr keeps traditional American Heavy Metal alive with his latest release. It’s a tough position when a band introduces a new singer, because they are always compared to the last one. It’s clear that Alexx Panza has some chops, but they are not Todd Michael Hall chops. The kid is still on his way up and displays potential for greatness.
