A NEW REVENGE
Enemies & Lovers

2019 Golden Robot Records

New supergroup A NEW REVENGE is not really a metal band, it’s more of a hard rock band, with a much more modern approach than anything I’ve heard from these musicians before. It’s poppy in places, it’s rocking in others, but overall this is a slick hard rock album that will melt your face off.

Some people are just creative, and can’t stop being creative. It’s people like Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens (JUDAS PRIEST), guitarist Keri Kelly (ALICE COOPER), bassist Rudy Sarzo (QUIET RIOT) and drummer James Kottak (SCORPIONS) that have to get that burning fire inside, out. Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens has been a heavy metal singer for around 30 years now, and Enemies & Lovers is arguably the most commercial record he has made. I haven’t heard Ripper sing with a band like this before, and it’s refreshing. I am surprised he has not tried something similar to this prior, as it’s pretty damn good.

Opener “The Distance Between” is a great start and is certainly catchy; it’s the perfect opening track. The first single released was “The Way”, an upbeat song with an infectious riff and chorus. Kelly adds some interesting details on guitar, while Kottak adds some cowbell to these first two songs. You can view the video for “The Way” on KNAC.COM HERE. “Never Let You Go” resides in a mid to high tempo arena, while “Glorious” is a successful up-tempo, positive vibes rocker. “Fallen”'s catchiness and sing-along chorus should work well in a live setting. “Only The Pretty Ones” reveals the time in Alice Cooper’s band rubbed off on Keri Kelly, as I could hear this song fitting on an Alice album. Enemies & Lovers closes with two of its strongest tracks, the self-congratulating “Here’s To Us” and the robust “Scars”. All 10 tracks were written and produced by the band themselves.

This album is a grower, and at a tight and punchy 37 minutes, Enemies & Lovers is easy to get through on a drive to work. The songs are all in the three to four minute range. I probably listened to this album 25-30 times, it stayed in my CD player for quite a while. Enemies & Lovers is available now.
