AMON AMARTH
The Pursuit Of Vikings - 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm DVD
Metal Blade Records
“We come from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow, The hammer of the gods, We'll drive our ships to new lands To fight the horde, and sing and cry Valhalla, I am coming!”
We all know that is the opening line to the “Immigrant Song” sung by LED ZEPPELIN. However I think Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were looking into to the future and singing about AMON AMARTH and not the Nordic Gods. Sorry Odin but I pledge my allegiance to Johan Hegg and the Vikings from Sweden who are called AMON AMARTH.
This documentary is to celebrate the band's twenty-fifth anniversary of existence. In honor of this milestone the band shares with us their stories and videos of which many probably have never been heard or seen before. From their beginning when they were an unknown band called , until they took on the moniker AMON AMARTH, the Sindarin name of Mount Doom in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth. One highlight was experiencing Johan's incredible voice or shall I say growl for the first time. They also discuss former band members and also some of the resistance they had to endure to the Viking image. It’s very refreshing to hear the band speak truthfully and with not holding anything back.
Now if documentaries are not your cup of tea this DVD also comes with two complete concerts. Both were filmed at the Summer Breeze Festival in Germany of 2017. One of the shows is on the side stage and more of a scaled down set. However the set list is comprised of older tracks and songs they do not play a lot. The second concert is held on the main stage and features all of the pyrotechnics and stage productions that the band is known for, and a set list comprised of all the songs you would expect.
This complete package is a must for any AMON AMARTH fan. I still have yet to see this band live. After seeing these two concerts I know I must experience this band in person. Just another band to add to my ever growing bands to see live list.
“Raise your horns raise them up to the sky
We will drink to glory tonight
Raise your horns for brave fallen friends
We will meet where the beer never ends” – AMON AMARTH
