REVOLUTION SAINTS
Light In The Dark

Frontiers Music SRL

As a casual fan of the melodic rock/AOR genre over the years, I can fully attest that REVOLUTION SAINTS’ sophomore album is probably the most well-traveled album of the genre I’ve ever come across. Which makes sense as the band itself has also a fairly long and storied history since their inception back in 2015 as the brainchild of Frontiers' President, Serafino Perugino, who had amassed the talents of Deen Castronovo (ex-JOURNEY, BAD ENGLISH), Doug Aldrich (THE DEAD DAISIES, ex-WHITESNAKE, DIO) and Jack Blades (NIGHT RANGER, DAMN YANKEES) for his dream project which also features the impressive production talent of Alessando Del Vecchio, best known for his work with HARDLINE and Jorn Lande. Recorded at Del Vecchio’s studios in Somma Lombardo, Italy, with additional recording taking place at Blades’ studio in Washington, Aldrich’s CasaDala studio in Los Angeles and wherever else in the world as Aldrich brought his demo tapes with him while touring with THE DEAD DAISIES for a good part of the past year or so, Light In The Dark racks up just as many air miles as it does dulcet melodies, succulent ballads and solid string work.

Light In The Dark continues in the same realm as its 2015 predecessor, amassing Castronovo’s stellar vocal histrionics as well as his superb drum work - yes, he drums and sings on this album - along with Aldrich’s fiery guitar work and Blades’ thundering bass assault. The title track alone starts off with a consistently-paced cadence and remains strong throughout the entire track. “Freedom”’s intro sounds at first like the background music to the best B-list movie ever made before Aldrich’s halting riffs and Castronovo’s anthemic vocals strengthen its tone. “Ride On” is easily the album’s fastest and heaviest track as Castronovo and Aldrich are battling each other to see who can produce the most metronomes in one riff - and all while sharing vocal duties; hell, given Del Vecchio’s long history of producing Jorn Lande’s discography, this song could easily have been perfect for Mr. Fire To The Sun himself to belt out, as well as “Don’t Surrender”. The power ballads such as “Can’t Run Away From Love” and “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing” are larger than life with soaring vocals and choruses but are free of the excess bombast that had invited much ridicule in the past, allowing the lyrics to make for a more direct statement. Finally, even the closing numbers such as “Another Chance” and “Falling Apart” are crammed with so much melodic goodness that they make it impossible for the listener to press Eject after the climax.

At just over an hour long, Light In The Dark makes for the perfect soundtrack for that proverbial journey into the depths of one’s conscience. And that ain’t no trippin’.
