SCREAMING FOR SILENCE House Of Glass EP By Geoff Ketler, Cleveland Contributor Thursday, August 31, 2017 @ 8:37 AM
The album opens with the title track, “House Of Glass” – a quick hitter with a catchy chorus and abusive breakdown. “Long Way Up” follows it as likely the most ‘complete’ song on the EP. It is well-produced and features an anthemic chorus with some of Zeb Christensen's strongest vocals to date. The more riff-oriented “Beetlejuice” allows drummer Matt Tatroe's fancy footwork to shine through. Apparently the working titles for all of the material on the EP were all titles of Geena Davis movies – with “Beetlejuice”, the name just stuck. The disc is rounded out by “Buried Alive”; building more on the themes of self-preservation and breaking through obstacles and “Worth Fighting For” – which slowly gains energy before breaking into a whipping heavy riff.
House Of Glass was produced, recorded and mixed by Erik Ron at Grey Area Studios in North Hollywood, CA, who also handled the band’s previous, full-length studio album. This EP definitely feels more raw, intense and straight-laced than the group’s previous efforts. Erik was able to tap into the band’s strengths and take them to the next level. SCREAMING FOR SILENCE could easily be mistaken for just another emo/metal/metal core band, but what separates them from the commonality (besides the songwriting) is the twin guitar attack of Casey Newsome and Danny Irwin who stay true to their roots and feature leads and double leads in most of their work. Vocalist Zeb Christensen seems to adapt his voice to the song. House Of Glass displays the spectrum that is Zeb’s voice; from screams to clean vocals, delicate harmonies and guttural intensity, it is all in there.
House Of Glass is clearly another step in the right direction for one the hardest-working independent artists on the road today. I have seen it all before and I expect big things from SCREAMING FOR SILENCE in the future. Get in on this now.
