SEVEN KINGDOMS In The Walls EP By Alex Yarborough, Orlando Contributor Tuesday, September 20, 2016 @ 1:44 PM
This EP features two new songs that will be on the new album. “In The Walls” is the first of these, and is a speedy power metal anthem featuring a wealth of double bass drumming from Keith Byrd and angelic harmony vocals from Sabrina Valentine. The track is based on the short story The Rats In The Walls by H.P. Lovecraft. This is a very good song, and a lyric video was released that can be viewed HERE.
The second new track is “Undying”, based on Daenerys Targaryen and Game Of Thrones. This is another excellent song, featuring exceptional vocals from Valentine and an elegant solo from guitarist Camden Cruz. To be honest, this is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard by SEVEN KINGDOMS. It really hits all cylinders for me, from the first note to the last.
The final two tracks are re-recorded songs from the band’s debut album, Brothers Of The Night (2007). “The Bloody Meadow” and “Stormborn” have been updated from the original versions. “The Bloody Meadow” is one of the best tracks from the debut album, and sounds even better here. “Stormborn” retains its death/clean vocal approach, with Valentine singing the clean parts. Whether or not these songs appeal to you over the originals is a personal preference. I do think they sound better and are played with more proficiency.
These four songs are around 21 minutes in length. If you are a fan of symphonic power metal bands like DELAIN, BLIND GUARDIAN, EPICA and NIGHTWISH, check out SEVEN KINGDOMS.
