OVERKILL/SYMPHONY X Live In Tempe, AZ With Photos! By CrpnDeth, Staff Photographer/Writer Monday, October 12, 2015 @ 3:59 PM
There is not much in life that is guaranteed, but thankfully, there are some things. OVERKILL putting on a blistering performance is just one of those things that are.
The band hit the stage and was more rabid than ever. They showed no signs of slowing down in their 30+ year career in Tempe, AZ on Oct. 8th. Their setlist included a little bit of everything, although something from each album couldn't be included. "Hammerhead", "Rotten To The Core", "Overkill" (original version, not the MOTORHEAD cover) and "In Union We Stand" were the ones they reached back the furthest for, and they meshed well with "Electric Rattlesnake", "Bring Me The Night", and "Ironbound".
While the band was in full form, the floor of the Marquee was a sweaty, circling pit. The show concluded with the encore of "Playing With Spiders"/"Skullcrusher", "Elimination" and the trademark "Fuck You!". The band left the crowd wanting more as usual, guaranteeing their return on the next tour.
SYMPHONY X did a great job as a supporting band. Some of the more vocal and impatient fans continued to yell "Overkill!" between their songs, but it didn't faze the band one bit. The first six songs of the set were also the first six songs from Underworld: "Nevermore", "Underworld", "Without You", "Kiss Of Fire", "Charon" and "To Hell And Back". Between those songs and three from Paradise Lost ("Serpent's Kiss", "Eve Of Seduction" and "Set The World On Fire") their setlist did not have the diversity of OVERKILL's.
If you are contemplating going to this show if it hits your town, don't hesitate - it's well worth it.
