These days Canada’s hard rock scene seems to be remembered/ represented by Rush and Sebastian Bach, but there was time not long ago where squeezed in between Rush’s prog rock power and Sebastian’s glitter, glam and tights – the country was ruled by Dwarfs –KILLER DWARFS (to be exact).
The early ‘80s saw the Dwarfs invade Canadian TV screens daily on Much Music, the CBC’s Good Rocking Tonight, and other video shows. Radio was also conquered and the Dwarfs set their sights on America – with hits like “Dirty Weapons” (an MTV Headbanger’s Ball staple), “Stand Tall,” and “Doesn’t Matter.” The band set out to conquer the world in late ’87 landing on Iron Maiden’s sold-out tour of Great Britain. 1992 saw the Dwarfs set the bar high every night on the Skid Row /Pantera tour. Then Nirvana reared its ugly head and by 1995 the Dwarfs were saying farewell with a few close friends in a Toronto club.
But in 2001, the Killer Dwarfs came back to stay and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's inception. The "classic" line up featuring Russ "Dwarf" Graham (vocals), drummer Darrell "Dwarf" Millar, guitarist Mike "Dwarf" Hall and bassist Ronald "Bad Ronbo Dwarf" Mayer took the stage at Toronto’s The Docks and ripped through a blistering set that included all the Dwarfs classics. Simply put – BIG songs, BIG Sound, Big performance and mostly BIG FUN!
A worthy treat for any rock fan – check out the band online: www.killerdwarfs.com
