In Rock We Trust… you had better goddamn believe you will after hearing this 6 track split EP from England’s ChangesOne Label. The story goes as follows: At the beginning of 2002, on the ChangesOne mailing list came the announcement of the label’s ninth release, a split EP of two bands from the US, Broken Teeth and The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs. Having never heard of either band, I checked out the Cheetah’s website, and noticed they were coming to St. Louis on their tour. I made plans to go, regardless of the fact I was having surgery on my wrist the next morning. Holy shit was that a kick ass, balls out, bust your eardrums show. There are no words to describe the feeling of going into surgery the next day with ears ringing from a show 12 hours past! I could not wait for the release of this disc!

The EP starts of with three brand new tracks from the Cheetah’s (all of which will reportedly appear on their upcoming swan song album Gainesville): “When God and the Devil Agree,” a perfect prelude the amount of pure rock on this disk. Makes you think, if God and the Devil really do agree, this has to be the result! “Strangled By Love” takes me back to my punk rock days in high school in San Diego. I can’t pin down the particular bands I hear in this two-minute ode to punk, except a smidge of Suicidal Tendencies, but this is my personal favorite on this disc. “Born Leader” brings to end the Cheetah’s part of this magical disk, and what an end! All I can say is that these boys have made their mark, and he has clawed it into my eardrums for ever!

Austin, Texas’ Broken Teeth (featuring Dangerous Toys frontman Jason McMaster) bring three tracks from their 2002 release, Guilty Pleasure, to wrap this EP up. Now having never heard anything from BT, except they sounded like AC/DC (who I am not a big fan of), I didn’t know what to expect. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!! “Devil Money” kicks off their “set” with full force. I have to be honest, personally, I hear Electric-era Cult in this song, which immediately perks me up! “Hangin’ by the Skin” follows with its heavy guitars and pulsing drums and bass line. My only thought during this song is how incredible it must sound live! If there was ever a song written for a live performance, this has to be it! “Crashlanding Affair” brings this disk to an end. Again, I hear the Cult here, a cross between “Electric Ocean” and “Outlaw.” If only crashlandings could be this enjoyable!

This disk has restored my faith in rock and roll! Never have I seen an EP bring so many people out of the woodwork as I did when the ChangesOne newsgroup faithful received their copies of this disc. So many members were just blown away by the amount of raw rock and roll energy contained on this 20-minute eardrum beating EP! I have no doubt you will feel the same way!
