The are was muggy and about 70 degrees, not something the national bands would be used to in the month of December. You see there was only one band on the bill from the Houston area and that would be my band EPIC DEATH. We got there early and loaded the stage and ran through sound check expecting to go on at 8:00 pm like all the advertising mentioned. The tour manager came to us and advised that we would be playing at 7:30 pm because FINNTROLL was not going to go on at 11:00 pm it was too late for them to go on. So we acted like the pros that we are, got on that stage and played to the people that were already there!

Next up was METSATOLL, a folk metal band from Estonia signed to Universal. Their music was like metal meets a renaissance fair. They were energetic, commanded the crowd and interacted with the crowd quite amazingly for 4 guys who barely spoke English. I'm picky when it comes to my music and I have to say they were awesome enough to warrant me going over to the merchandise table and purchase a CD as well as a patch for my vest. To be honest out of the entire line up of signed bands I have to say these guys were my favorite. I couldn't stop watching and listening. There were quite a few true fans of this band in the crowd and they were polka moshing, yes you read that right polka moshing!

BLACKGUARD was up after METSATOLL and let me say they had some big shoes to fill following those guys. BLACKGUARD hails from Montreal and I was intrigued to see that their drummer was female. I thought it was awesome that I wasn't the only female playing that night and I respect any woman who has the ability to get behind a kit and basically do an hour of steady aerobics. Justine was amazing on the kit; however, was not so approachable while they were loading out. I happened to catch them in the parking lot while they were all standing at their trailer talking and slowly loading gear into it. Of course I was doing what every local band does and try and spread their name to anyone and everyone and in this case I was sharing drink koozies with a few people. Everyone in her band but her accepted a koozie, but she was adamant that she didn't want anything from me. It was disappointing really, it's not like this band was never in the same shoes as EPIC DEATH but I suppose after being signed and having a few incarnations of your band you get a bit cold and callas. They were tight and energetic but can't say that I would run out and buy a ticket to their show after my personal experience with Justine. Sorry guys, but it only takes one moment to ruin it.

Last but not least, the mighty FINNTROLL. These guys spoke very little English and they did corpse type paint along with wearing troll ears to create the troll personality. I had never seen or heard them live before, I only had YouTube videos to go by and was quite excited to see them live. They were good, but as I said METSATOLL hands down were my favorite of the night.
