METALJAM Benefit For Autism Awareness This Saturday, April 27th At The Gaslamp In Long Beach! By Larry Petro, News Monkey Wednesday, April 24, 2013 @ 4:53 PM
MetalJam started as a way to get together a group of local metal musicians, who had children affected by Autism, to gather and play some music and raise money for "Autism Speaks".
It has grown over the last few years, due to not only it's popularity, but through the efforts of it's founder, local musician Jeff Fahnstock, who's son is severely autistic. Musicians jam on a pre-selected collection of classic "Heavy Metal" songs, posted on the Metaljam website www.metaljam.org.
As an added attraction to this years event, artist Derek Riggs, who created "Eddie" the official mascot for IRON MAIDEN, will be in attendance. Derek designed a new "Eddie" specifically for the event, and it adorns this years MetalJam 2013 T-shirt, which will be sold there, as well as a limited edition lithograph, which he will personally autograph for all buyers in attendance.
It promises to be fun for all that attend, and a great day for not only local "Headbangers" to get together, but also people who's lives are touched by the effects of Autism, to maybe meet and hang with others that share the same thing. Money is raised by raffle tickets for some great prizes, donated by the likes of Metal Blade records, Monster Energy Drink, Schecter Guitars, Century Media, Sweet Death Entertainment, and many others. All the money is donated to "Autism Speaks".
