DJ Will at the Black Sabbath Reunion Announcement By DJ WILL, KNAC.COM Personality Friday, November 11, 2011 @ 1:32 PM
What a way to start "National Metal Day" even though I was wiped out up from Dj-ing at the Rainbow the night before but it HAD to be done. This is Black Sabbath we're talkin about!
I arrived and it was quite the scene outside with everyone who didn't make it in waiting for the masters to arrive. After getting sorted I stood
with all the other photographers and Media folks from around the world awaiting the start of the
festivities.
Right at 11:11am there was a short video montage then host Henry Rollins came
out to set things up with a fantastic dissertation about why we're all
here and the impact of Black Sabbath over the years. He broke it down very
clear & concise.
The members of Black Sabbath then all came out for a small Q & A segment.
The band had been rehearsing at Ozzy place for about a month and have a lot of new material
written already as you would imagine for the new album.
Rick Rubin being at the helm is thee best choice for this forthcoming release in my opinion so
that was a pleasant surprise to learn and after hounding the band for
years, besides being a huge fan he did have some some production "tune up" of that Sabbath Sound in the form of Chicago's Trouble in the early 90s who were on his label.
I was able to ask a question as it pertained to the live set list. "Besides
performing new material what are the chances their will be some deeper cuts this time around?
Tony basically answered that nothing has been been worked out yet but stated there are plans to mix it up. We shall see and hopefully thats the case. "Dirty
Women" & "Spiral
Architect" of years past were great addictions but that was then this is the
present.
(My vote goes to "Meglomania","Hole in the Sky","Lord Of This World", "Never Say Die"etc the
Sabbath classic selections are endless.)
After the Q&A there was a quick photo-op and that was it.
The first official announced date will be at Download Fest on June 10th of 2012.
I look forward to this tour and think diehard fans will as well and depending on how long it goes is anyones
guess but if we're all going to be treated to NEW Black Sabbath featuring
all the original members this time its certainly not a tour to miss.
My thanks to John Fenton and Marcee Rondan @ MSO.
