"Today is the first day of the 'Megadeth album 12' sessions after the Christmas and New Years break. I was at the studio yesterday night with Justis after flying home from our New Year's ski trip and it was unreal how much the studio has taken on a life of its own and is a living breathing building now that is responsible for forging the new Megadeth record. Looking back over my holidays since my last string of intelligent posts, which weren't many during the Christmas-Hanukkah rush (Kwanzaa to our friends of color and most any other holidays around that time that are responsible for all the gift giving cheer - at the end of a gun - in a line at the register from hell - on the last day, in the last hour, at the last store . . . for a singing reindeer! Ugh!!! I went skiing and Justis went snowboarding at 49 degrees Mountain (I think that is what it was called) and the staff there asked if I wanted them to take me on some runs, to which I said, "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! just kidding. I actually took them up and spent the afternoon running the mountain with a young dude named Bubba (really), and he was a great guy and skied really well, so I just stayed on his heels the whole time. The greatest accomplishment for me was not ending up in a heap, since it has been so long since I skied last. That has got to be from back before snowboards first came out. I have some of the best snowboarding equipment on the planet with my Burton gear, and i love to play in the snow, so this was a long time coming. Now, the whole time that we were there, Spokane was buried a few dozen inches of snow, and I was destined to stay on my feet, no matter what, the whole time we were in Washington, and by God, I did not fall down once: not before we we went skiing, not during skiing, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . but there was that little slip at the airport yesterday, right as we pulled up to the airport, when I stepped out of Chris Olson's (my friend with the Chris Olson Customs motorcycle shop) Denali. I opened the door, and a gust of wind pulled the door open and it pulled me, and I reached down with the point of my toe to find the running board on the car, but it was covered over in frozen road slush and there was no footing there. Fast-forward, now I am laying on my ass in the parking lot of the airport, at the drop off point for departures and I am covered in slush, the coffee drink that I was drinking went all over Chris' wife's door of her brand new Denali (Tammy Olson - who runs Pam's coffee company), and I am reduced to stripping down to my underwear in the street, as fast as possible, to peel of the "Spokane Airport's 'slop-achinno' ", change my clothes, and try to look cool at the same time. My elbow is black and blue and my pride is even worse, but I have to say that I really had a good time and I look forward to going back to the mountain. I did think that i was going to see the Christmas Card winner at the airport, er, something?!?! Oh well, I guess you can't be a great graphics artist and have time to help the elderly crawl through the airport's slush too. I hope that you all had a great holiday too, i know several really bankrupt people that when ever you ask them how they are doing around the holidays, they always complain. I have three lists; there is the "nice" list, and then there is one of my favourites - the "naughty" list, but then there is the often exposed, but rarely confronted "f*ckhead" list. You know the ones:
Gerald Fitzpatrick: "Hey Pat, I am swamped, I have all of theses gifts to wrap, and all of these parties to go to, and I just HATE the holidays!" Patrick: "Well, I do happen to have some cyanide left over from taking my kids to see the Jonas Bros. I guess I could split it with you. Gerald: "Jeez Patty, you're swell." Patrick: "Don't mention it." It will be good to see Mr. Sneap today, but it is going to just be a half day and getting ready to go to the playoff game at the Charger Stadium today. Talk about a dog with two bones? That is it for me today my friends. Thanks to Bubba for the runs, 49 degrees for the hospitality, Chris and Tammy Olson for your graciousness hosting us, thanks to my band, management, and crew, but most importantly thanks to you for making it possible for me to jam for you, and still have such a great life. I love my family and am able to treat them really well, and because of that, I am going to try to play above and beyond anything that I have ever done. I have to go rinse the asphalt from the airport gutter out of my hair now. Be sure to call me or leave me a message on my widget."
