LOS ANGELES, March 20: "VIP" and former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson confirmed today that she has hepatitis C, which she said she got from her ex-husband Tommy Lee while sharing a tattoo needle with him.
In a statement issued by her publicist, the former "Baywatch" star says she's undergone outpatient treatment at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center.
About 3.9 million Americans have hepatitis C.
It's spread through blood-to-blood contact, most commonly through sharing needles for intravenous drug use or through unprotected sex. In some patients, it can cause severe liver damage.
About 8,000 to 10,000 people in the United States die each year from complications due to hepatitis C infection.
