"Unstoppable" Lordi Announce North American and Asian Tours By Newsferatu, Writer Monday, September 4, 2006 @ 7:39 AM
Eurovision winners Lordi seem unstoppable. They are releasing a Special Edition of their Arockalypse album in late September, and it will also include a bonus DVD. On the DVD there will be apart from music videos, the Welcome Home concert from Helsinki last May, when a record audience of 90,000 Finns welcomed their heroes back from their Athens victory. It will also have some extra material from Athens as seen on Finnish TV in May. The band will also record a new version of their 2003 hit 'Would You Love A Monsterman', and a new music video will also be shot with a Halloween theme. The band will finish their mini-tour of the UK in London on Halloween night October 31st. The London gig at the Forum is already sold out. The band will set out on a tour of Europe covering almost 30 cities, starting with Stockholm on the September 16th. The current single, a re-recorded version of 'Who’s Your Daddy' from the Arockalypse album entered the German charts at 33 and at number 21 in Austria. 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' is still on many charts around Europe. The Eurovision winning single has recently reached a gold disc status in Germany for 150,000 CDs sold there. The album Arockalypse has previously sold gold in Sweden.
According to Finnish tabloid Iltalehti, the demand for the band is enormous even in Asia and the USA, where promo tours are being planned for next year. Mr. Lordi has said that one of his biggest dreams is to play the Madison Square Gardens in New York. The first official Lordi biography, by journalist Jussi Ahlroth will be released in mid-November. The book entitled Mie Oon Loordi (I Am Lordi, mimicking the band leader’s heavily accented speech) is authorized by the band and will be released by Johnny Kniga. The first, already released unauthorized biography by Sven Pahajoki has meanwhile caused controversy, when the webmaster of a Lordi fan website, Juha Syrjänen threatened to sue the author of the book for unauthorized use of 14 pagers of text from his website. The first print run of 20,000 of the book Lordi - Hirviön tarina was sold out very quickly and a second run of 25,000 copies has now been ordered by the publishers Revontuli.
A Lordi-themed horror film is also being written by controversial Finnish screenwriter and vicar Veli-Pekka Hänninen. The film is planned to be finished in April next year in time for the Eurovision Song Contest final hosted by Finland. A Lordi-branded cola drink has also hit the shops in Finland. It is sold in two sizes and in a regular and a light version, with a set of different labels depicting each of the band members. The labels were designed by Mr. Lordi, Tomi Putaansuu himself. He is a keen artist, who will also publish a comic book including his drawings later this year. The Lordi Cola is manufactured by Olvi, who on their website also encourages cola fans to collect all the different labels for a chance to win a unique single signed by the band.
