Great White - Station Fire Update: Tour Manager Asks For Reduced Sentence By Newsferatu, Writer Thursday, August 31, 2006 @ 7:26 AM
Great White's tour manager, who ignited a nightclub blaze that killed 100 people wants a judge to reduce his sentence, according to recently filed court documents.
Daniel Biechele pleaded guilty to 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter in February and was sentenced to four years in prison. His attorney, Thomas Briody, filed a motion last week asking the judge to reduce that prison term. Briody would not comment on the reasons behind the request.
Biechele was working as the tour manager for Great White on Feb. 20, 2003, when he lit a pyrotechnics display inside The Station, a West Warwick nightclub. Sparks from the display lit highly flammable foam lining the club's walls and flames engulfed the building. The fire killed 100 people and injured more than twice that many.
The criminal trial of club co-owner Michael Derderian is scheduled to start Sept. 5. No trial date has been set for his brother, Jeffrey.
