Korn's Jonathan Davis Steamed About Royalties

The wrecking ball is slowly swinging towards record labels, as artists in favor of the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC) ban together, hoping for more equitable contracts for recording artists. Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis gives his opinion:
“In the next couple of months the music industry is going to be turned on its head, especially by all these artists doing the free concerts for this cause. And sooner or later they're going to have to 'fess up to it and let artists have their rights back because they really don't have any.
“The record company basically takes all our money. We don't make any money off the CDs. They say you do, but all our royalties are put in these things called pipelines and they hold them for years and years and years and when we were renegotiated to get—since we got our first success they held a whole bunch of money in a pipeline—so we had to renegotiate it. Like, 'Okay, we're going to renegotiate. We're going to give you all the money that you earned in the pipeline and that's going to be your deal.' And they don't pay anything out. So they're just giving us our money back. It's really seedy. I don't understand how it was set up that way, and I'm still learning more about it that pisses me off more.
"The only way we make money is going on tour and selling our T-shirts. That's what we got to make our living. It's not a bad living, I'm not bitching, but it's just wrong.”
