David Lee Roth Replaces Stern? By Newsferatu, Writer Monday, July 18, 2005 @ 9:32 AM
Coming out of commercial breaks, the General Manager of Howard Stern's flagship radio station, WXRK in New York made a solemn announcment that Infinity Broadcasting, WXRK's parent company and Stern's boss, has decided to end the show early to allow advertisers to see that Infinity is committed to replacing Stern with a viable show and give them time to hear Infinity's choice as morning show host for "the next five years."
The confusing part about this, is from market to market, commercials with Howard Stern's voice on them continued to play. "Howard will be right back" sweepers played during commercial breaks.
Is this a joke, or is Infinity just patching everything together in what must be a stressful parting of ways with Stern?
Whatever happens, Roth is in a very unenviable position. Whomever follows Stern after decades of morning show domination will surely feel the wrath of the audience.
Stern is slated to take his show to Sirius Satellite Radio at the end of the year. No word yet if the launch will come sooner now, if Stern is actually "in-between jobs."
