Nine years after the release of the last Samson album 1993, guitarist Paul Samson has now announced the release of a new studio album for June this year. The working title is Brand New Day and the eleven tracks were recorded in Paul’s own studio in Norwich, UK last year and are currently being mixed.
Apparently, Paul Samson has recruited a completely new rhythm section. Instead of his long-standing bass player Chris Aylmer, Paul has recruited Ian Ellis (Ric Lee's Breakers/Savoy Brown) and drummer Billy Fleming (Paul Samson’s Metallic Blue) has taken Thunderstick’s place behind the drums. The new material features heavyweight singer Nicky Moore, who first came into the band in 1981 to replaced Bruce Dickinson (then known as Bruce Bruce) when he left to join Iron Maiden. The line-up suggests that the new album will be more of a blues album than Samson-style metal.
Apart from the new studio album, two classic Samson albums will finally be re-released through Molten Metal USA in the States, namely Before The Storm (originally released through Polydor in 1982) and Don’t Get Mad – Get Even (originally released through Polydor in 1984). Both albums, which were deleted from the catalogue by Polydor and have only been available as bootlegs, feature the legendary Samson/Aylmer/Moore/Jupp line-up. The re-issues will come along with several bonus-tracks.
