KISS Rocks The Legendary Whisky A Go Go! By DJ WILL, KNAC.COM Personality Wednesday, February 13, 2019 @ 11:32 AM
Thankfully, the days leading up to Monday's show that all tapered off as this was a SiriusXM exclusive subscriber event that few were able to attend.
I myself was lucky enough to be in the mix but I was also on the Whisky "loader" crew on a break from the Rainbow Bar & Grill so even if I didn’t get to catch the show I can easily dust off my roadie skills and assist with the gear!
Day of Show
As I mentioned this event was strictly forSiriusXM subscribers, (with several VIPs of course thrown in for good measure) which meant no physical tickets just special show laminates. Once all the contest winners in line made their way inside, I learned of another unique event that was about to take place before the show even started.
Now the last time KISS performed in makeup on Sunset Blvd was about 5 years ago for a benefit at the House of Blues which is sadly another hotel complex, however at that time they did not attempt anything as cool at that show to what I call:
The "KISS Krossing"
Up San Vincente Blvd came the KISS tour bus flanked by security and West Hollywood Sheriffs at all 4 corners of the intersection, who then escorted the band in full costume literally across Sunset ala Abbey Road for some once in a lifetime photo ops. *see my footage*
The true money shot was in front of the Whisky marquee which displayed the band's original name WICKED LESTER before stepping on stage. Quite the spectacle!
Kudos to whoever brainstormed this idea.. A great historic moment at this legendary venue KISS will perform at for the first and last time in their careers)
The show itself was an abbreviated 12 song set that began with "Deuce" and ended with "Detroit Rock City" (catch all the fan footage on you tube) and could be heard live on the KISS ARMY channel via SiriusXM. While there was no fire/blood, rockets, hydraulics, etc there was confetti, the costumes and the classic KISS songs. That works in this unique rare setting and that alone is worth the experience as a long time KISS fan.
The following night will be in Anaheim but I'll see them where it all started for me back in '77 @ the Forum at my first ever concert in LA, coming from San Diego by way of Indiana.
A definitive "full circle" moment.
One thing about the journey is the end and KISS are truly going out in style with this incredible sunset strip "detour" on this "End of The Road" Tour.

Thank you to the Maglieri’s, Tisa, Luke Elbling, Jake Perry, SiriusXM and the Whiskey/KISS crews aka "Masters Of Efficient Tetris Skills"
