Rolling into the New Year with the formidable momentum, which recently landed them a Universal Records deal, Cleveland’s Mushroomhead kicks it off with news from the front. Following on the heels of
their national debut "XX" which sold over 50,000 units on Indie label Eclipse, the masked marauders recently debuted at #26 on Billboard's Alternative New Artist Chart with the new version of the CD released by Universal on December 4. Additionally, their first single, "Solitaire Unraveling," has hit Top 20 and landed Top 5 phones at rock radio. A video for the compelling song was shot recently and directed by Dean Karr (Marilyn Manson, Dave Mathews Band, Deftones). Set in a Southern California airplane
hangar, it features the band in specially designed masks, and according to frontman J Mann, "acts as a metaphor for the cycles of life and the duality of man." Drummer and founder, Skinny adds "It's very much us: dark, creepy, surreal." Currently in rotation on M2 and heavy on MTVX as well as various
local shows around the country, the video can be viewed here .
Mushroomhead -- Skinny on drums, J Mann on lead vocals, Jeffrey Nothing on lead vocals, Schmotz on keyboards, Pig Benis on bass, Gravy on guitar, Bronson on guitar, Stitch on samples -- has also just completed work on a new song for the soundtrack to the Universal Pictures film Scorpion King set for March 26th release. Scorpion King, a prequel to the introduction sequence in The Mummy Returns, is being produced by Jim Jacks, Sean Daniel, and Stephen Sommers, as well as by WWF owners Vince and Linda McMahon.
Mushroomhead will also appear on the national syndicated radio program Rockline on Monday, January 21st at 8:30pm PST/11:30 PM ET. The toll free number for people to call in is 1-800-344-ROCK
(7625). Mushroomhead will kick off the first leg of their tour in support of XX in Columbus, OH in late February .
