Toronto's Sea of Green Releases Rock Opus Chemical Vacation
World Tour Imminent
Toronto-bred trio Sea of Green has been making waves throughout its career as a pure force of rock. Their early material had been used in television programming for MTV's Road Rules, ESPN's X-Games, FOX Sports: Bluetorch TV, and many other promotions. The band's infectious brand of psychosomatic rock is also noteworthy due to its ability to make one's body move - in essence, a dance-ability induced by musical hyphnosis. The band's latest effort, a 12-track intoxicatingly poignant platter entitled Chemical Vacation, raises the bar, and lifts Sea of Green beyond the confines of mere Stoner Rock.
Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Travis Cardinal, bassist/vocalist Eric Kuthe, and drummer/vocalist Matt Dowd, Sea of Green is on the cusp of breaking a new genre of rock, one that morphs its influences into a modern flow. He explains the development as "Stoner Rock is really an extension of Grunge. The new album is really getting back to our more recent roots. We're heavily influenced by Soundgarden & Alice In Chains, moreso than we are of the classic Stoner Rock influences from the late 60s & early 70s, though that inspiration is still there." Chemical Vacation, in Kuthe's words, is "more straight-ahead rock than our previous works, which hinted at psychedelia. Some songs are metal-edged, some are Stoner Rock rooted, and some are balls-out rock! Our first 2 records are more cryptic lyrically, but this one is about personal stories of emotion & real life - our experiences, feelings, etc. We're growing and changing as the band evolves."
Chemical Vacation, as with all previous Sea of Green work, was produced by Nick Balgona (The Tea Party, Deep Purple, Nazareth). As to the suggestive title of the album, Kuthe clears the air, "I read an article by Scott Weiland (of Stone Temple Pilots) talking about drug use and his experiences since then, and he said that he '…doesn't take chemical vacations anymore, with heroin or in my love life.' There are different chemicals in the body that get released to coincide with different emotions. Adrenaline & endorphins are both chemicals in the human body that react to emotions…the album reflects the emotions of life."
Along with the aforementioned high-profile promotions, Sea of Green has been nominated twice for a High Times Magazine 'Doobie Award', and received a number of press accolades, including:
"Sea Of Green's marriage of ethereal prettiness and rusty-machine churn riffs just might make the Adidas-and-eyebrow ring set rethink its rage" ~ SPIN Magazine
"The trio are spreading a philosophy of spiritual growth and the hope for a harmonious world. " ~ High Times Magazine
"Sea Of Green have created a style destined to make you dust off your lava lamp, break out your tie-dies and crank the volume to 10…or beyond." ~ Hit Parader Magazine
"Sea Of Green are onto something with this. Call off the search for quality. Invest your money right here." ~ Metal Hammer Magazine
"If you like your rock smooth, tight and melodic, then Sea Of Green will almost certainly please." ~ StonerRock.com
An exclusive new Sea of Green track is being included on the upcoming High Times: Stoner Rock compilation, which also features Fu Manchu, Clutch, Nebula, & COC.
While negotiating a world tour to enlighten the world to the band's subtle brilliance, Sea of Green will be in Los Angeles from April 17th-28th playing live, to promote Chemical Vacation, including a showcase on April 22nd, and a performance at The Garage on April 24th. The band is also confirmed to appear live on-air with KNAC Radio.
