Statement from Lizzy Borden on saving
Perkins Palace (the Raymond Theatre):
In 1987, on Halloween night, Director Penelope Spheeris brought her film crew in to Perkins Palace (the Raymond theatre), to shoot our segment for her film the (Decline of the western civilization part 2.) we could have shot our segment anywhere we wanted, (The Whisky, The Roxy etc.) but we all thought Perkins Palace was the place to show the world what was going on in the local metal music scene. Perkins palace had a huge impact on heavy metal music in Los Angeles in the ‘80s. Some of the biggest names in metal started there, and if I'm not mistaken I believe a lot of Spinal Tap was even shot there. It would be very sad to see it go so we can have yet one more apartment complex. Where are these people that are going to live in these apartments going to go for culture and entertainment in the city they want to be proud to say they live in?
Gina Zamparelli was synonymous with Perkins Palace; if you played there chances are you played for her. I would lend my support in any way that I can and I would urge any one that wants to retain any culture at all on this coast, to save this historical palace.

My name is Mandy Lion and I am the vocalist for the Sony recording band WWIII and the Pony Canyon recording band Wicked Alliance. I am glad to say that I had the opportunity to see quite a few legendary rock artists perform at the Raymond Theater. For everyone from Phil Collins to Motley Crue, this place was a hot spot for great performances. To say that this theater is a part of rock n' roll history is an understatement. This building gave some of the greatest performers a home in which they could truly produce magic... I fondly remember the days when rock
promoter extraordinaire Gina Zamparelli was in control of this piece of American history, producing magical events that have stayed with me and many others that were lucky
enough to have been a part of the legacy that is the Raymond Theater. My wish is to perform and watch other artists perform in this beautiful room in which music history was made and will hopefully continue doing so... Please save the Raymond Theater!
