PROSEVERE Releases New Album, Hurts Like Hell By Larry Petro, News Monkey Friday, February 13, 2015 @ 12:31 AM
PROSEVERE was started in November 2006 by Eric Ashe (guitar) and Gary Segars (vocals). They enlisted drummer Rocky Griggs and bassist Matt Riley to fill out the group, and the four original members have remained intact since the very beginning. Their debut full-length album, Hurts Like Hell, was released February 9 through Easy Target Entertainment. Teaser clips for several songs, including the first single “I Was Wrong” can be heard on the band’s official SoundCloud page HERE.
“I Was Wrong”, the first single from the record, was serviced to radio in late January. It takes the listener through the writer's realization that, through everything you can try, sometimes, with some people, nothing is ever enough. the band also released an official video for the track and you can check it now right HERE.
The album cover art was put together by guitar player Eric Ashe. “I wanted an image that expressed what we went through with these songs,” he explains. “There's so much emotion, so much raw energy on this entire record, and we feel like the artwork gets across what you can expect from the album as a whole.”
Hurts Like Hell covers a wide spectrum of rock, and you can hear the band's collective influences throughout. Showcasing explosive guitar riffs (“I Was Wrong”, “Hurts Like Hell”) and intimate melodies (“Glory”, “Can't Let Go”), the broad array of styles offer a look at the band's entire indentity while never straying from true rock n roll.
“We enjoy all types of music, and we write all types of music, but rock n roll is who we are,” says Segars. “PROSEVERE has definitely matured over the 8 years that we've been together, and we're incredibly proud of the depth we were able to show on this album.”
The band has released 4 different EP/discs, and have maintained an active touring presence, not only regionally in the Southeast, but also having traveled all over the eastern United States. They have an independent radio footprint, and are veterans of several radio / music festivals, including putting together, and selling out their own Memphis music festival, The Hometown Throwdown, with headliners SHINEDOWN in 2013.
Priding themselves on their live show, the band has toured the past few years as direct support for bands like SHINEDOWN, BUSH, GODSMACK, PAPA ROACH and others, hitting markets from New Orleans and Orlando, FL all the way to New York, Minnesota, and the Canadian border. 2015 looks to be the biggest year yet for the group from Memphis.
