LOU REED Dead at 71 By Larry Petro, News Monkey Sunday, October 27, 2013 @ 11:22 AM Cause Has Not Yet Been Disclosed - advertisement - - advertisement - Rollingstone.com has reported that Lou Reed, one of the most influential songwriters and guitarists of the past 50 years, died Sunday. He was 71. The cause of death is not yet known, but he did undergo a liver transplant in May. Reed, with musician John Cale, formed the VELVET UNDERGROUND with Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker.
