Two more months to go and then it's time again for one of the most prestigious metal fests in the world: Germany's Wacken Open Air.
This year's festival is from August 1st – 3rd and, once again, the billing reads like the who's who in metal. Blind Guardian, Halford and Bruce Dickinson (surprise, surprise) are on top of the billing of the ultimate metal experience made in Germany. Additionally, German metal vets U.D.O. and Doro will make their appearance as well as Kreator, Nuclear Assault, Savatage, Children of Bodom and numerous others. After his absence last year, Onkel Tom (Tom Amgelripper of Germany's thrash stalwarts Sodom) will be once again entertaining the assembled international metal community with hard-edge versions of traditional German beer tunes.
Yet it's not only the big names that make Wacken what it is, it's also the younger bands that show what they get up to on the WET Stage (Wacken Evolution Tent) and many a newcomer act has managed to get a foot in the door of the bigger music business there. This year's fest will be no different. There are many less-known bands on the bill that are waiting to be checked out.
As in former years, the thirteenth edition of the W:O:A will be no more and no less than a cross section of what true metal is all about. In addition to over 60 live bands on four stages, there will be a metal market, where metalheads in need can complete their collection of albums, patches, and posters. The Headbangers Ball Room is the place where the party continues after the last band have switched off their amps or where to go for a breakfast beer.
For further details and information on how to get there, go on the official W:O:A website. Also, stay tuned for updates on KNAC.COM.
