Slash Ponders G N' R at 25, Rock And Roll Hall of Fame By Long Paul, Program Director Tuesday, January 25, 2011 @ 7:41 AM
Next year, Guns N’ Roses will be eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – because it will have been 25 years since their debut release. Former GN’R guitarist Slash doesn’t have his tux picked out yet, but that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t given the idea thought.
“I didn't realize it was so soon,” he told Spinner.com. “First, we have to actually get inducted. I know we’ll be eligible, but with the way that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is sort of hit or miss with rock bands, there is a possibility that we won’t get nominated next year.”
Slash has been part of past years’ induction ceremonies, including when he helped put Van Halen in the Hall as a member of Velvet Revolver. Although Slash would be honored by an induction, he’s not focusing on if it will – or won’t – happen in 2012.
“If they’re gonna pass you over, I don't think it’s worth worrying about too much,” he said. “But at the same time it’s nice to be recognized by your peers, so yeah, everybody wants to be mentioned. But if they don’t mention you, you can’t take it too seriously because they miss a lot of really important people every year.”
One of those “important people,” in the guitarist’s humble opinion, was Alice Cooper – although the Rock Hall is correcting that mistake this year.
“I definitely got behind him when I found out that he was finally making it in,” Slash said. “I had a lot to say about it only because in rock ’n’ roll there are some people that you just cannot overlook. And if you do, it takes all the credibility out of the organization and Alice is one of those people.”
Now that Cooper will be in, who would Slash next like to see as a Hall of Famer?
“The one that comes to mind right off the bat – and it’s not even a band that I’m a huge fan of but definitely is eligible – is KISS,” he said. “And I know that they’ve been passed over every [expletive] year.”
