Danzig in Philadelphia By A Headbanger, Do You Bang Head? Tuesday, June 22, 2010 @ 1:36 PM
My first Danzig show and my first time at the Troc in Philly:
I was very surprised at the size of the venue. Very small old theater, but to see Danzig up this close would be a treat!
The opening acts were Seventh Void and Gorgeous Frankenstein. Seventh Void were good, but I was actually surprised that I enjoyed Gorgeous Frankenstein as much as I did. The singer is a Glenn Danzig lookalike, but since Doyle from the Misfits is their guitarist, I guess it's okay.
Their songs, which I didn't know any of them, were really good. Doyle had guitar problems the entire set. Other than that, they were a great warm up act.
NOW for Danzig. It seemed like forever waiting for them to start.
They didn't go on until ten, and they only played for an hour and fifteen minutes, but it didn't matter. What an incredible show!
Glenn's voice sounded really good. The crowd was absolutely insane, despite the unbearable heat! It seemed like most of the crowd in the mosh pit got winded half way through the set because of the heat, but they picked it back up near the end.
Tommy Victor had guitar problems too before the beginning of "Bringer of Death". He also was handed an out-of-tune guitar before one of their songs, prompting Glenn to show his sense of humor commenting, "Nice job Mel" to Tommy's guitar tech.
Glenn also threw about seven bottles of water into the crowd.
One BIG problem for me, the security insisted on NO PICTURES, with you cell phones or anything. NONE! Everyone was warned on the way in, if you took any pictures, you were immediately removed. This was the first time I ever experienced that, and it was a real bummer.
Other than that it was a great show and a FANTASTIC setlist:
