According to the New York Post, David Lee Roth is being sued by the Manhattan public-relations firm Two Guys Who Do Ads, who are charging that the former Van Halen frontman stiffed them for $110,428.91. The suit was filed in Manhattan state Supreme Court on November 9th after the firm allegedly handled his website and t-shirts for five years but hadn’t received payment in the last 12 months. "He's not paying for services he signed off on," the company's lawyer, Robert Steckman, told the Post.
Roth hired the firm in 1997 and the company "set up numerous Web sites for him, did t-shirt designs for him and did public-relations work for him" but stooped paying his bills last year, alleges Steckman. Roth ignored the company's numerous requests to settle his past due account, says the lawyer, so the firm decided to sure.
"He has a penchant for believing if you ignore something, it will go away, but it doesn't. Just look at Van Halen," Steckman said, referring to Roth's decision to leave the famed group in 1985 to pursue a solo career.
However, the fan-site dlrarmy.com has another take on the situation. The webmaster, known as The Sarge, sheds some light on the events. “Mike Migliozzi and Kendall Johnson (Of Two Guys Who Do Ads), a.k.a. The Keepers, were hired to run Dave's official site in 1997,” clarifies The Sarge. “They have been doing a decent job of maintaining and running his website for the last four years. They also maintained Dave-TV.com, Slawterhouse.com and RothRadio.com, all official sites.
I am highly skeptical on the full truth of this article. For instance, if Dave's hasn't paid the bills in one year, why did they continue to do business with them? Also, $100,000 for one year's worth of web service seems excessive.”
The latest twist in the cyber-saga is that last month davidleeroth.com, run by Slawterhouse (a.k.a. Migliozzi and Johnson), suddenly shut down. Weeks later it reappeared brand new Diamond Dave pictures and artwork but no mention of Slawterhouse. Recently, Slawterhouse.com (which used to point directly to davidleeroth.com) has re-launched without any reference to Dave. Hmmmmm…..
