Judas Priest in Indianapolis By A Headbanger, Do You Bang Head? Wednesday, July 8, 2009 @ 9:38 AM
The mighty Judas Priest rolled in to Indianapolis on June 29th to play a warm-up show at the elegant Murat Theater. The Murat only holds 2400 people split between a slant lower floor and slant upper balcony which made for a very personal show.
JP is touring in support of the 30th anniversary of British Steel and has vowed to play the whole entire album nightly. The official headlining tour with Whitesnake kicks off on July 1st.
Some how the roadies managed to stuff the Priests' whole stage set into the small venue which allowed Indy to be treated to a real intimate JP show that had no support act, ...just Judas Priest!
The amazing set opened with all of the British Steel album followed by large set of JP classics including Sinner, The Ripper, Diamonds and Rust, Rock Hard Ride Free, Victim of Circumstances, and Freewheel Burning featuring Rob on the Harley, plus a very sick version of Nostradamus, and more.
The stage was the typical over the top Priest light show, all the band members were tight and really into the small venue it seemed. Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing played like they were still in their 20's, with K.K actively pacing the stage and Glenn providing a guitar clinic all night long. Scott Travis was like a madman on drums and Ian Hill kept it all bottom heavy in the bass dept. Rob Halford was the essential showman all night long and closed the show with an extra crunchy version of You've Got Another Thing Coming.
It was a very special night in Indy that probably only happens once in a lifetime in that small of a theater with a band as huge as Judas Priest, very good stuff!
