Heavy Rock legends Deep Purple have announced that organist/composer Jon Lord has resigned from the band. The Hammond duties have been taken over by former Rainbow / Ozzy and Whitesnake keyboardist Don Airey.
Bassist Roger Glover stated in a message to The Russian Deep Purple Pages: "It is sad that Jon has come to this difficult decision but every one of us respects his right to determine his own life. I have learned so much from him that I could not possibly do him justice by attempting to quantify it."
Airey should be well acquainted with the Purple material, since he already stepped in for Lord on the European tour last summer, because the Deep Purple organist was undergoing knee surgery. This has been the first line-up change since Steve Morse came into the band for Joe Satriani, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore on the 1995 tour.
