Stryper is in the studio working on a new record due out in 2008. Details will be made available as they come in, but word from Michael Sweet in the studio is: "We begin laying down vocal tracks over the next few weeks. We're finished with all the tracking, other than vocals. We start mixing in October. We're covering the song 'Peace Of Mind' by Boston and Tom Scholz (Boston guitarist) is joining us to play guitar on that song. The whole record is sounding incredible!"
Southern California's Fu Manchu have issued the following update: "Here are some long awaited updates! A video for the song 'Hung Out To Dry will be finished soon. A new Fu Manchu gold colored 7" is being released. Songs include: 'Knew It All Along' / 'Who Are You'. 'Who Are You' is a cover song from the almighty VOID. This will be released on at the Dojo records. Fu Manchu will be touring Europe October 1st to November 30th. Exact dates will be posted soon."
Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx was a featured speaker at the 18th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month luncheon on Capitol Hill on September 6th. He was the first rock star to speak at this event - a particularly ironic distinction given his storied life of rock and roll abuse. Video footage from the occasion can be viewed here
Opeth held a top secret "Covers Night" at a Swedish bar. The band posted this update: "A memorable evening for any Opeth fan took place on September 8th and 9th at the notorious Anchor Bar in central Stockholm, Sweden. Martin Mendez (bass), Axe (Martin Axenrot - drums) and Fredrik Ĺkesson (guitar) played a (secret) full-on heavy metal cover set fronted by Mats Levén (Krux, Yngwie Malmsteen, Therion). The setlist (in no order): 'Fast As A Shark' (ACCEPT), 'Disturbing The Priest' (BLACK SABBATH), 'Mob Rules' (Black Sabbath), 'Hole In The Sky (Black Sabbath), 'Welcome Home' (KING DIAMOND), 'Welcome Home' (Sanitarium) (METALLICA), 'Painkiller' (JUDAS PRIEST) and 'Victim Of Changes' (Judas Priest).

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash was interviewed for the cover of a new Sam Ash catalog. In the interview Slash was quoted as saying: "I still think that Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) is an all time genius heavy metal guitar player. He’s amazing and he always picks great guitar players for his band. I don’t know the name of the new one, but he’s really good."
According to MaidenFans.com, Iron Maiden will headline the Metal Day at the Rock In Rio festival in Madrid and Lisbon as part of their recently announced Somewhere Back in Time Tour 2008. Apparently those are the only shows the band will do in Spain and Portugal.
