Thornley In Port Dalhousie, Ontario By Newsferatu, Writer Wednesday, August 23, 2006 @ 2:13 PM
It was a hot beautiful Sunday afternoon, you could see Toronto’s CN Tower in the distance on the other side of Lake Ontario. But this afternoon it was much better to be on this side of Lake Ontario because along with the
beautiful girls, and the hot summer sunshine, there was a rock show taking place at the home for the inspiration for the Rush tune, “Lake Side Park."
Ex Big Wreck front man, Ian Thornley was playing a concert with his new
band, Thornley at Lake Side Park, Port Dalhousie at a venue suitably named, My Cottage.
People entered the venue early cooling off with drinks while the opening
band, The Marble Index played a much refreshing performance. The Marble
Index was a straight up hard rock band with a sound reminiscent of bands
like The Clash. They played many songs off of their self titled debut as
well as songs from “Watch Your Candles Watch Your Knives” including their
hit single “All That I Know” that has been used in TV commercials.
Shortly after, Roadrunner Records Signed Thornley hit the stage wasting no
time as they opened their show with their heavy song, “So Far So Good”. In
no time, Thornley had the entire audience moving, singing along and dancing
to their hard rock sound.
While fighting off wasps, and the hot sun beating down upon them, they
played material off of their debut, “Come Again”. Early on in their set they
played a new song called “Radar” that had their trade mark hard rock sound
that will please fans of both Thornley and Big Wreck.
Along with songs from “Come Again”, Thornley also placed material from Ian
Thornley’s former band, Big Wreck such as “That Song”, “The Oaf”, and “Blown
Wide Open”.
With many hit songs for the Toronto based band to choose from, they also
played a cover of “Another Brick On The Wall” by Pink Floyd and an
astonishing version of Nirvana’s “All Apologies”.
After a killer long performance, Thornley came back on stage for an encore
where they played a nice treat for fans as they went into a jam where they
covered parts from many successful rock icons including Led Zeppelin,
Fleetwood Mac, and U2.
After the show it was evident that this is a band to watch out for as they
contain the rock star attitude that many bands are lacking these days.
Thornley is a well sounding hard rock band that is fun to watch.
A perfect summer afternoon on Lake Ontario.
