Black Label Society hit the stage at 4 P.M. and performed a 40-minute set infused with a variety of songs from their extensive career. As the Skull BLS logo curtain dropped, the audience was pumped, as the BLS party was just about to get started! The audience was a mixture of the all ages crowd seeing the band for the first time, to the die-hardcore BLS fans.
Opening with "The Beginning...At Last", Zakk Wylde took complete control with his skull crushing guitar onslaught. Old school guitar riffs inspired Black Label Society’s set. As "Suffering Overdue" unfolded Zakk proved that his skillful guitar playing, has made him one of the true guitar heroes of our generation. It is so great to see how the band's fan base has grown, over the past year, as the many BLS fans, which braved the heat to see their hero.
BLS are known for their stellar guitar playing, and Pittsburgh's Pride and Glory Nick Catanese, also proved to be a driving force behind the driving guitar oriented BLS sound. Nick has a guitar style that totally compliments his boss, infused with hard -edged riffs that help mold the heavy, skull-crushing sound known as Black Label Society. Nick performed with his amazing new Shot To Hell guitar, which has a great tone, adding a very special heavy ambiance to the BLS razor sharp sound.
The powerful rhythm section of drummer Craig Nunemacher, and bass player John JD Derservio never missed a beat, as their performance fueled the backbone of the band.
The middle part of the set inspired songs from the recent BLS CD,"Mafia". As "Suicide Messiah" blasted from the speakers, Zakk unleashed his special whammy bar effects and pinch harmonics. "Highlight of the set was "Fire it Up", as Zakk performed a special funky solo, that stole the show. The catchy "Say What You Will" proved the diversity of the band and current "Mafia", CD.
Black Label Society ended the show with a song that launched their career, Stillborn." The song has a great guitar solo and catchy lyrics. It was so much fun seeing the band having so much fun onstage. The audience had the mosh pit going in full-blown BLS effect, throughout the concert. Today's performance was just a warm-up to the full BLS Fall U.S. Tour that is slated to begin in October.
Zakk and BLS came to play, and gave one of the their best performances.
