Unearth Braves the Desert Heat By CrpnDeth, Staff Photographer/Writer Sunday, August 13, 2006 @ 1:38 PM
Touring partly in support of their new CD (which hadn’t been released yet), III: In the Eyes of Fire isn't just heavy, it's downright brutal - a menacing combination of speed, precision and intensity that grips and shakes your senses. The music is structurally complex, and emotionally furious. And this is exactly what they delivered when they hit the stage. The event staff was soon bringing body after body over the barricade. And aside from that, Unearth has fun on stage. Guitarists Ken Susi and Buzz McGrath feed off of each other and Susi never stops moving, almost making sure all eyes are on him. He has an erect dick drawn with a magic marker on his arm (why?), and he works the crowd, flips people off, makes faces, jumps and climbs. Apparently the 100+ temperature doesn’t bother him. And throughout the entire set, the band comes off tight. For anyone that missed the show, they will be starting another tour with Bleeding Through, another great band with high energy and crunchy riffs. This should be a killer bill. A note to AZ folks – this bill hits the Marquee in Tempe on Sept. 18.
