Join The Cult: An Exclusive Interview With ROGER CHOUINARD Of ALL SINNERS By George Dionne, Podcaster Wednesday, December 20, 2023 @ 9:21 AM
Everyone loves a good underdog story. Picture this, it's 1980-something. You just got the keys to your parents car. You rolled down to the local music store to pick up the latest cassettes by your favorite Sunset Strip bands MOTLEY CRUE, RATT, L.A. GUNS, and the like. You pop the tape in and cruise down the block thinking, this is going to be me one day.
You start a cover band with your buddies and start hitting the clubs. As you grind, and the years go by, life starts getting in the way. Maybe you have to get a real job to make ends meet, or maybe you start a family, whatever the case may be. Then after 20 years of adulting you decide to start playing again. You're financially stable, the kids are grown up, and it's time to relive the good old days and have a little fun.
Then something magical happens. Interest in your band starts to pick up, more so than when you were younger. You start packing in the clubs, you get your original songs on the radio, the streams of your latest single are climbing, and offers to tour around the country are coming in left and right. Enter ALL SINNERS.
With just a few years under their belts as a group, Heavy Metal act ALL SINNERS have been tearing it up on the Massachusetts music scene. Vocalist Mike Golarz, guitarist Nick Testone, bassist Bruce Morrison, and drummer Roger Chouinard have shared the stage with LITA FORD, WINGER, FASTER PUSSYCAT, STEPHEN PEARCY, QUIET RIOT, and DANGEROUS TOYS, as well as selling out local headlining club shows.
The start of 2023 saw the release of their self-titled EP through their own imprint Purchase Street Records. As a result, their music made its way to local terrestrial radio, as well as national XM Satellite Radio. ALL SINNERS will close out the year with a big show at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, California opening for L.A. GUNS. 2024 will see the recording of their first full-length album, with their sights on a major label release.
A tour with fabled Heavy Metal act METAL CHURCH is set for MARCH. Could 2024 be the year that takes ALL SINNERS to the next level? There's a certain pride that comes along when the "hometown" band achieves a higher level of success and notoriety, and those of us here in Massachusetts are rooting for ALL SINNERS to pull off that classic underdog victory.
I had the chance to catch up with drummer Roger Chouinard ahead of the band's big New Years Eve gig at The Whisky. Chouinard discusses the band's history, their shift from covers to originals, recording their debut EP, plans for a new full-length in 2024, opening for L.A. GUNS in Hollywood on NYE, sharing the stage with their rock heroes, their upcoming tour with METAL CHURCH, Chouinard's record store Purchase Street Records, who moves more vinyl KISS or TAYLOR SWIFT, will KISS fans buy into the avatars, memories of his uncle Bobby Chiounard (BILLY SQUIRE), and much, much more.
